Description

Why is all my best art fan art recently? Probably because someone else's master piece is much more interesting than trying to craft my own project.

I've been playing through Twilight Princess for the billionth time with :iconjapanimaniac13: and watching my sister play as well. Each time I replay a game (though this time I'm intent on mostly watching and picking apart the functional aspects and story telling) I notice more and more.

I've always really liked Link, and that every reincarnation has his own distinct personality, while fitting the role. The word we've all agreed to suit this Link is whipped. He's just a nice, quiet guy, and he does whatever you say, no questions.

And then there are the moments in the game where, all alone, he strikes a pose or has a bit more flourish than necessary. So to me, he's capable, he knows he's capable, and he takes pride in it. And yet, he's very reserved. The fact that he's so driven to do what's right, so aggressively tunnel visioned, and simultaneously soft spoken and then allows himself to be pushed into things is interesting.

So here he is, victorious. Can't help a smile, but there's bigger fish to fry.

I probably spent fifteen hours on this? I worked on it pretty much only when watching something, so it's hard to keep track. It has four layers. one for the drawing, one for value/brown base, a gel layer for basic colors, and then the rest of the painting is all one layer on the top. I guess no matter what I do I'm still really traditional. (though digital medium makes it harder to accidentally let one limb drift off like my oil paintings)

The pose as honestly the hardest part, color is just easy and fluid to mess with. I'm happy with the pose, but I'm sure something is wrong.

It's a bit too..true to the original style for my liking. Though the color pallet was interesting to try out, I feel like I set out to do more with my style but ended up just painting an off brand of the original. Oh well! I had fun and it turned out pretty well!

"Can't help a smile, but there's bigger fish to fry." Haha, oh my gosh, I love everything you said in your comments about this, about Link's personality in Twilight Princess and all the finer points of his mannerisms. :D And I must say, all those facets you captured really make this picture just so charming. :aww: The look on his face is just precious. :XD: And I'm loving the little spring to his step even amid all the blood and still-flaming arrows and whatnot.

ALSO I JUST NOTICED the arrow in his hat! :XD: Oh my gosh I love it. :D

Beautiful work!
